GIS and data

Waste fleet billing reconciliation, City of Fremantle

A GIS-based system for the City of Fremantle's waste service — about $8 million a year in operating budget — that tracked every daily ratepayer and commercial bin pickup across the fleet, matched actual pickups against the amounts billed through the finance system and informed route optimisation.

The work

Each day's pickups for ratepayer and commercial customers were recorded across the waste fleet and matched against the amounts billed through the City's finance system, joining spatial operations, customer records and financial control in one working system.

The integrated waste customer and route management system combined customer data, GPS-based route tracking and spatial mapping to support efficient service delivery, compliance reporting and resourcing decisions, with a GIS-integrated live dashboard on a database back end.

It served the City's domestic and commercial waste services, coordinated alongside the City's construction, fleet and parks portfolios.
