Gold Coast landfill modelling and 30‑year programme
Survey-data validation, digital landform models of the landfill and an integrated 30-year capping, rehabilitation and development programme for the City of Gold Coast, with a master cost framework covering volumes, resources and staging.
The work
A strategic review of existing and future landfill operation and rehabilitation strategies set the long-term land-development outcomes, staging decisions and transition from operating landfill to post-closure land use.
Validated survey data fed digital landform models that assessed existing conditions against interim and final rehabilitation profiles, giving an objective review of concept designs, constructability, settlement risk and long-term environmental performance.
The 30-year programme sequenced planning, statutory approvals, design and construction with a clear critical path, risk interfaces and decision gateways. The master programme and cost framework integrated landform volumes, resource requirements and staging assumptions as a defensible foundation for business cases, funding decisions and executive and board approvals.
An investigation of landfill-gas and subsurface risk-monitoring technologies, including UAV-based methane and hydrogen-sulfide detection, informed long-term monitoring of capped landforms.
